Effects of small-scale patterns of vegetation structure on suspended sediment concentration and sediment deposition in a salt marsh

چکیده

Salt marshes contribute to coastal protection by attenuating waves and reducing flow velocities. Nevertheless, salt are threatened rising sea levels. In order keep pace with levels, need grow vertically sediment input. Although major processes contributing deposition in known, there is still a lack of understanding the influence canopy height biomass on suspended concentration spatial scale beyond which an vegetation comes into effect. Furthermore, can be heterogenous little known role small-scale patterns structure deposition. We investigated effects field experiment two types (i.e. Spartina anglica low marsh Elymus athericus high marsh). Partial mowing resulted pattern mown subplots control size 4 m 2 various combinations adjacent creek. Based results, it concluded that , no effect water as between did not differ both marsh. or subplot next creek had behind. summary, based results our study, presence automatically leads higher vegetated patches compared • sedimentation. The included plots. Vegetation increase this small scale.

Monitoring baseline suspended sediment in forested basins: the effects of sampling on suspended sediment rating curves

Rating curves are widely used for directly assessing changes in the suspended sediment delivery process and indirectly for estimating total yields. Four sampling methods were simulated over a 31-day record of suspended sediment from the North Fork of the Mad River near Korbel, California. The position and size of the four groups of plotted slope/intercept pairs indicated differences in bias and...

The effect of properties of sediment type on the relationship between suspended sediment concentration and radiance

A laboratory experiment was designed to determine the spectral characteristics of different types of sediment suspended in water in the visible and near infrared wavelengths (0.45-0.9 /xm) using a fourchannel radiometer. Field collected sediments were resuspended in water to produce different concentration levels for the measurement of radiance. Spectral measurements of turbid water showed a di...

the effects of changing roughness on the flow structure in the bends

flow in natural river bends is a complex and turbulent phenomenon which affects the scour and sedimentations and causes an irregular bed topography on the bed. for the reason, the flow hydralics and the parameters which affect the flow to be studied and understand. in this study the effect of bed and wall roughness using the software fluent discussed in a sharp 90-degree flume bend with 40.3cm ...

Dual Behavior of Suspended Sediment Concentration in a Regulated River

Better understanding of suspended sediment transport processes allows for better management of both rivers and coasts. Based on field data and sediment transport energy theory, this study presents an analysis on the suspended sediment hysteresis in the Lower Tenryu River of Japan in connection to the channel carrying capacity of suspended sediment and morphological characteristics. The transpor...
